“The most thrilling novelty of this performance was Maria José Siri taking over the title role: already a role and Festival veteran, she did not disappoint the audience's and my expectations, offering us an Ethiopian slave of remarkable depth; she was able to catch the numerous musical and emotional aspects, always believable and in complete fusion with her character's moods and feelings; if “Ritorna vincitor” was correctly performed with the right attitude, the best came in the more insidious Act III aria “O cieli azzurri”, where she combined the most beautiful legato with appropriate dynamics and a stage interpretation worthy of a talented tragic actress.”
